Spearheaded the formation of the Association of Southeast Asian Publishers
In 1981, during the Manila International Book Fair, the ASEAP was formally organized with the presence of Presidents of Publishing Industry Groups of ASEAN Countries- Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Philippine Book Fairs Abroad
BDAP organized Philippine Book Fairs in Association with the Philippine Embassies and Consulates in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco, China (5 cities), Frankfurt, Singapore, Bangkok and Malaysia. It has also spearheaded book donation projects for Philippine embassies and consulates.
ISBN / ISSN
BDAP & UNESCO initiated the adoption of ISBN/ISSN for all Philippine publications.
International Efforts
BDAP has invited different publishing groups from the U.S., U.K., China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand for dialogues with Filipino publishers.
In 1982, BDAP organized a tour to China upon the invitation of the China Publishers Association. A total of 64 publishers/booksellers joined the trip. Likewise BDAP attended the ASEF Forum on Copyright Trading in Beijing, China.
BDAP also sends delegates to regional fora on publishing.
Gintong Aklat Awards
Bi-annually, BDAP gives out the Gintong Aklat Awards, the only award that recognizes the overall excellence in publishing.
Book Publishing Industry Development Act (RA 8047)
BDAP together with APB, PROP, PEPA, and ACPI formulated and lobbied for the passage of RA 8047.
Establishment of Libraries in congressional / municipal / barangay (RA 7743)
BDAP, together with the National Library, supported the passage of RA 7743.
Provincial Book Fairs
BDAP has organized provincial book fairs in Iloilo, Cebu, Davao, Albay and Capiz.
Establishment of FILCOLS
In 2007, BDAP organized the Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society, Inc. (FILCOLS) with the help of the National Book Development Board (NBDB), the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), and the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL or Writers’ Union). BDAP provided a soft loan to help FILCOLS start its operations.
Supported the passage of RA 10372
BDAP and FILCOLS supported the NBDB and IPOPHL by petitioning legislators to amend the Intellectual Property Code (IP Code). By 2013, RA 10372 which amended the IP Code was signed into law by President Benigno S. Aquino III.
The BDAP commissioned the creation of a Roadmap for the Philippine book industry in 2015. In order for the local book industry to be globally competitive, this roadmap sets the following goals:
Develop a mindset for innovation to keep up with constant change
Improve quality of its products and processes
Fulfill diverse domestic demand for quality books that are reasonably priced
Instill within its creators and content processors a desire for excellence and productivity
Integrate with the international community: ASEAN and Beyond
Achieve equitable distribution of wealth through the viability of the publishing process at every stage of the value chain, even caring for the well being of its consumers, Filipino market primarily,which is the main market.
